Spring 2020

Learner's Dictionary Idioms
Spring Flex Meeting Recap

Thank you to everyone who attended the Spring Flex Meetings. View the slides here: Spring Flex Slidedeck.

We had healthy discussions about plagiarism, and I did add a number of links and resources to our ELAC Canvas shell.

We also brainstormed overall sugggestions for our ELAC Program. If you were not able to attend and/or have thought of more suggestions to improve our department, please add them here: ELAC Program Survey.

ELAC Go!

We need feedback from our faculty about the self-guided placement tool being developed to replace the placement test for incoming ELAC students. Try out the tool here: ELAC Go!

Be aware this is very much a draft and many technical changes have already been noted.

We are most in need to short academic listening/videos (under 3 minutes) for ELAC students to listen to and view and academic reading texts for students to include.

Be on the lookout for a call to lead focus groups in your ELAC class later this semester - we need students to try out the tool (once updated) and to give feedback.

I've been listening to the DIESOL (Digital Integration in English as a Second or Other Language) Podcast while walking my dog or driving, and my two favorite episodes lately are below. Even if you don't have time to listen, check out the show notes for helpful resources.

Have you seen the NY Times Vocabulary Video Challenge? I love the idea of 15-second videos that define a word.

One of my students shared the Learner's Dictionary tweets with me - fun for learning idioms and a word of the day.
